Shibori Workshop
Learn to make Indigo Fruit Vat and create surfaces with resist dyeing technique ( shibori )
Will share a beautiful experience with indigo, starting from the history we will learn the magical process of making blue dye from indigo plant aka blue gold of India, using a Fruit VAT method ( ingredients we going to use are indigo powder, fruits, lime and water. We will analyze the chemical reaction taking place, binding properties, color fixing, how to store and maintain the VAT. Also some fun experiment creating patterns with Shibori resist dyeing, creating stunning surfaces on fabric.
What is indigo?
Indigo has been used all over the world from very ancient times. Natural indigo is obtained through a non toxic fermentation of indigo ( neel )plant leaves, which is the most widely used plant derived blue dye, with high color fastness.
What is Shibori?
Shibori is an ancient resist technique that originated in japan. By manipulating the cloth with folding, stitching, clamping, binding, and compressing the fabric, creates a natural resist area so when dyed, the compressed parts remains undyed / white while the exposed sections absorbs dye and creates fabulous patters. Tie dye when done only using indigo, its common called as Shibori dyeing.
